That’s better we can see what you are trying to do now. Clean up the end and press it out, you will need a press, viceroy lathes were built not to come apart very easy

Looking at that now I would have a tendency to pull it off and not try and press it off, as there may very well be circlips holding bearings in the pulley. You will need to do this with both supports so that you can see the end of the pulley and shaft.

Hi

Do the pillow blocks turn fairly freely on the shaft now?

Are there any burs on the shaft ends that are preventing the shaft sliding through the pillow blocks?

Do you have a vice that opens far enough to get the shaft in plus the thickness of one pillow block?

Regards Mick

Yesterday I got it pressed out, the cast iron end piece was just plain bored, no circlips or anything holding it. It was just in there really tight. there were two bearings inside the pulley, they came out easily and had a circlip holding them in. Now to get two new bearings and put it all back together.

Thanks All !

I need a bigger hammer.

Hi

No - You need a puller:

And maybe some heat

Regards Mick

It is all fixed now thanks, did a little write up over in metalworking titled "fixing grass cutter with bandsaw" used it to reinforce the repair.
