Primary colours for painting wood?

Hi there, this is my first post and I did not see an Intro sections so will just dive in with a daft question.

I got my first ever scroll saw recently after enjoying making larger signs and things with a jigsaw I fancied more intricate work.

I have knocked out a few gifts and may have my first ever commissioned piece for a wedding to do but I will need to find a way of painting or staining the wood.

Is there a ready made range of bright kid friendly colours out there please? Ideally not beeswax melted with food dye etc as I am limited by space for storage etc.

Would something like Chestnuts spirit stains be any good? Do you need total coverage or just colouring that lets the wood show through?

I've used Hannants stains for kiddy garden buildings. £13/litre or £33/5 litres
