I recently bought some long lengths of lumbar (notice I said lumbar not wood!) 2x2 pine about 6 feet in length and 5 lengths and they were surprisingly expensive considering pine is meant to be a "cheap" wood. So even If I can save money on pine which I use a lot of that would be great.

I found that link by accident its not linked anywhere else on the site as far as I can see and I wonder how accurate the prices are, but it gives me an idea of what are expensive woods and what are cheap woods.

Well, if you do get any problems with this machine, get in touch with Axminster straight away as I'm sure they'll be happy to help. I contacted them a couple of years ago about some of the faults I'd noticed with the older model and they claimed that hadn't heard of anything like it before - even though I'd met several other members of the forums with the same machine and identical problems...

It's been upgraded from a Hobby to a Trade rating for a start, and the price seems to have remained the same. My old motor burnt out after a couple of years but, it was a cheap one and the Trade rating guarantees you'll have a better quality motor than I did.

It's alright as a machine to start out with (better than those tiny benchtop models, IMO) and it's fairly easy to set up should you need to re-align the tables or anything.

That sounds like good advice overall, the other thing I like about this one as its not so heavy so if I decided to sell it on it makes it much easier and I save myself another £45 on the heavy delivery charge.

That's the thing; if you did want to sell it on later, these kind planers (because of their size and weight) can be sold on quite easily through eBay or similar. It only took me a couple of goes to sell mine locally last year. The guy came down with his van one evening and we got it in their quite easily (although it would have been A LOT easier had he decided to clear out some junk first; it had to go in on its end basically!).

I was going to direct your attention to the Record Power PT260, which is another identical machine but apparently features cast iron in places whether the cheaper models have cast aluminium... But it is another hundred pounds and doesn't come bundled with an extractor. All Record stuff comes with a five-year warranty, where as Axminster (and others) offer only one.

:)

Thats the one i have but it is in the blue livery. It's ok for the money but would like to upgrade eventually.

Does anyone know how long this offer is likely to go on for with the dust extractor as I dont want to miss out but I want to investigate a few things first.

Normally, Axminster will keep special offers like this on-going throughout the summer until the end of August. Their 'New Year Sale' ended with February, so I reckon there's a chance this one'll still be available for a while yet. :)

OPJ, its in my garage rigth now.... just have to attach the fence and its ready to go. Only managed to assemble the base and the dust extractor. Full Review Coming!

the planed stuff you buy - isn't necessarily square and straight !

It depends on the machinest and if he's more concerned with pushing things through or taking his time to inspect the boards prior to machining!
