If we take a couple of examples:

1 iphone

This iPhone has over half the USA market and apple sell 1/4 billion units globally

Where is it made: virtually none in USA, it’s parts come from Japan, Taiwan, China etc. the Gorilla glass is made in Texas.

Where is it assembled: China, Vietnam, India

The largest assembly plant is Hon Hai Technology Group (Foxconn), is located in Zhengzhou and employs over 300,000 workers. It can assemble 1/2 million a day.

Good luck relocating that to USA.


Example 2: clothing

USA imports 97% of its clothing.

Levi’s, Wrangler, Lee none are made in USA


What people don’t realise is that it’s American businesses and American brands that are using Chinese manufacture….and it is those brands that would suffer.


China, India, Vietnam etc have Labour rates a fraction of the USA, Trumps tariffs mean either

A) pay the tariff and products in shops go up in price

B) bring manufacture into USA, pay higher Labour costs….products in shops go up in price.

You would think it was pretty obvious, but apparently not.

Which cities are you able to point to which substantiate your claim of lawlessness causing businesses to pack up and leave?

@Blackswanwood The first that’s widely published and extremely easy to check is New York where supermarket deserts are a real issue and state funding of circa $10 million has been initiated to try and help resolve the problem of people not having access to food. The deserts have been created by the major supermarkets pulling out primarily due to crime / shop lifting, they are not confined to NYC.

A quick google will pull up stories highlighting the issues from any of the major news networks. I can link, but if I do, the usual concern is that the political leaning of the media source incurs bias. So, I think suggesting taking a google of your own trusted news source will verify my perspective.

Probably not true.
But anyway crime / shop lifting is due, as ever, to poverty.
USA has a failed economy, which is mainly why Trump got voted in; any change sounds better than nothing. Similarly with Reform here.
Trump's promises are downright lies, just like Fartrage and co.
Harris failed because unable to propose radical changes (i.e. high tax, better wages, wealth distribution, health service) because she'd get labelled socialist. Vague promises of change are meaningless without flesh on them. Similarly with Labour here - though they got in be default with very low turnout.
Trump's purge of immigrants won't happen because USA depends on them for low paid work force, legal or not. Trump will still be able to continue weaponise them, gurning on about it and spreading the blame in all directions.
Similarly every failing under Trump will be weaponised against the media, the left, socialism, islam, immigrants...etc
The USA electorate might wake up at some point.

@Jacob I agree with most of what you say, I personally think that politics in both the USA and the UK has become far too polarised with both sides losing / lost credibility in the eyes of the electorate. Like the UK, the USA was faced with voting for the terrible or the awful. Not a lot to chose between them, and again like the UK I suspect Trumps ratings will mirror Stammer and be near rock bottom after the first 100 days.

Supreme court is entirely political, Trump appionted 3 judges and he pushed for the reversal -and made a lot of noise after to say it was down to him

abortion has everything to do with womens rights

3) "Trump wanting to and actually building a wall in his first term" not true he didnt build a wall, he built a few bits thats all

4) "States / cities that are now lawless with overwhelming crime levels" is false

We can also talk about the economy if you like, the analysis most certainly does not concur that it is Trump good, Biden bad. In any case you do need to acknowledge as a starting point that Trump inherited a strong economy and Biden has steered America through covid and into the global post covid inflation.

Well when I Google New York supermarket closures the only story is about supermarket closures due to new rules on refrigeration chemicals.

What I think he mistakenly refers to is “food deserts” which have been around since the 90s at least.
Supermarkets have pulled out of poverty stricken areas like parts of the East Side in NYC and issues like obesity, diabetes etc have increased. What outlets remain that sell fresh food does little because so few can afford to buy fresh over ultra processed staples that dominate many American diets (UK’s too of course). The 10m mentioned is a scheme to help bring fresh food within reach of those living on the poverty line.
No doubt odd incident of violence has had an input but poverty is the main driver.

As far as I can tell crime in New York is down and now at historic lows. That’s murder, violent crime, robbery.
