Hi

Hopefully someone with a bit of electrical savvy will read this. The cables on my "expensive" hand power tools are fairly soft rubber. The cables on my "cheaper" hand power tools seem more plastic like, have a bit of a memory (ie the folds remain when uncoiled) and generally won't lay out where I put them, basically I don't like them.

I want to extend some cables, what do I need to ask for in the electrical shop to get the rubber type of insulation/sheathing on my cables?

Thanks

Mark

Hi Bear. When I needed something like that, I just went to my local electrical wholesalers and asked. They were pleased to sell me the stuff by the metre.

There is a flexible plastic stuff too, known as 'Arctic cable', because it stays flexible in cold weather. I'm not sure if it's cheaper than rubber-covered (it ought to be!), but it will be less sensitive to solvents.

Available on line, electrical suppliers, eg - http://www.alertelectrical.com/cat/86/a ... ible-cable.
even seen it in one of the B&Qs a while back. Screwfix list it as flex cable http://www.screwfix.com/cats/A431793/El ... lex/3-Core. Avail 2.5 and 1.5 to suit your machine / tools requirements. Usually comes in blue for 240v or yellow for 110v.

I use it and works very well
