Have had this bell for 40 years without a handle. Used a tasty bit of yew from my ground clearing. Brass rod in the centre made from an old poker and a ferrule from a piece of brass curtain pole. Topped off with a bronze washer and a bit of rosewood (thank you Santa).

Hoping to get the stumps out today, will deffo be keeping them, yew is so gorgeous to work and in the hand.

Two large Walnut bowls (one oiled one waxed) with cracks, a large Ash bowl - with cracks and a large Cedar bowl where my maker's stamp burned through. The Ash and Cedar bowls were the last bowls I turned on my Record CL3 which is now dismantled ready for sale and The Walnuts are the first bowls from my new Coronet Regent.

The two Walnuts are 320mm and 290mm x 50mm. Ash is 400mm x 90mm and Cedar is 370mm x 40mm.

My latest project seems to be taking longer than I thought. Between brakes in the process I've amused myself with other turnings, yesterday was the holm oak and today was a bit of ash. Had a bit of wood worm sign so didn't go overboard withe sanding or finishing. Just sanded to 240 grit then one coat of tung oil. I was going to use it in the work shop but after Steph saw it, it's now been designated as our nut bowl.20250312_193206.jpg20250312_193243.jpg20250312_193133.jpg

Not a lot of time today but managed a bit done and got to use a wood worm screw for the first time. Found it ideal for my ash wood worm effected chunks I have 20250313_191303.jpg
Just had time for one before I ran out of daylight 20250313_191206.jpg20250313_191218.jpg
Flipped it round and trimmed the top20250313_192907.jpg
Judging by all the gapping holes and cracks it will be an epoxy treatment which I also have never done before, so till then its been stowed on my ready to turn shelf.

Bad day after carefully putting a few turned ideas together to be let down by my own carelessness whilst polishing the top.
First made a bowl put on a design on the side then carved it out20250312_143839.jpg
Next made a bowl with no bottom 20250314_184321.jpg20250314_184248.jpgnext a top20250314_184201.jpg20250314_184227.jpg
Next got on with finishing for the bottom bowl I used Melanie lacquer and for the top a wax oil.20250314_184421.jpg20250314_183953.jpg

Looks like it may have split due to the thin rim gradually getting thicker and thicker towards the top. Always best to keep the thickness the same .

I have to own this one blister should have had the top handle facing down when polishing it on the buffing wheel. Snagged in the fibers got ripped out my hands and jammed into lathe bed snapping the handle and cracking opposite sides of the top.
