Spent this afternoon making some more trees and snowmen for my paint your own kits, only had 8 blanks that are big enough so did 4 of each and gave a quick sand with some 180g, may have to cut up some bigger blanks to make more, they're doing fairly well at the shop so should do well at the fair this Sunday and next Saturday so will likely need more, the snowmen get white black and orange paint, the trees get green red blue and a choice of gold or silver they're then tied off with a bit of ribbon.

Veru festive in their packaging

Finished my honey dippers and they soaking in their linseed bath. Took a step back from all the Christmas market millarky and decided to use a small hand size log of laburnum that Christian gave on my Willy Vanhoutte day out. Have to admit, been iching to use this since seeing Mike Holden turning laburnum on his you tube channel. Steph seemed to think it was a bit of a poisonous gift due to aĺl the rot. However she was quite impressed with the finished article. 20241128_211801.jpg20241128_211741.jpg20241128_211618.jpg20241128_211641.jpg20241128_211924.jpg20241128_211721.jpg20241128_211831.jpg

Turned out quite nice.

So the first spalted birch tree I made was going to be for my parents but my other half saw it and was 'ooh maybe that would look better here' 😂 So I had to make some more. I did 2 more. One was the same shape (centre with the white bow - original to the left) and the other was a less fussy one (front left - green bow. This is the same shape as the one back right but for that I used a wire to burn the lines).

They are in my little forest of previous years trees, with the little hazel one in the centre being pretty much the first thing I turned. The snowman was a quick one as I had a bit of extra material on something else I was turning so figured I'd make something.

Something I mentioned before was my tendency to put a ball on the end to prevent eye poking, but I've also found it rather useful to be able to add a ribbon/bow to the top.

Fox and mushroom are salt and pepper shakers that I thought happened to fit quite nicely in the scene :)

Just working on making a reindeer for hoopla at my kids school's christmas fayre. I've turned the head to make it a bit more fancy. Will upload shortly.

Any guesses what this is for?

As for your last picture because its got ball on end a play sword for the kids when they come around. 😂 but seriously I'd guess at a posh toilet roll holder

There was a small off cut from the laburnum, one end had a load of radial cracks but thought I might just get a small box out of it, if i took my time. Glad I did, still got some radical cracking in the top but other than that very happy with the end result 5cm across and 8cm high really gorgeous grain photos just do not do it justice. Small piece of meranti for the handle.20241129_174258.jpg20241129_174129.jpg20241129_174230.jpg20241129_173924.jpg20241129_174027.jpg20241129_173719.jpg

Good try but not quite that big.

The answer is

An arm for my Nutcracker soldier that i've finally got around to finishing after starting it over a year ago. Well almost - just got a pom pom to make for his hat. Will post a pic soon

Looks like the end comes off to slide a noise maker on. This is a long shot.
