Made a few "things" in the past few weeks, including a very basic bench hook for hand-planing and a router jig for experimenting milling rough wood flat.

I've also "upcycled" or converted this old wine rack into a better wine rack...

I bought it off Face-ache Market-scam for *cheap*, and it was originally built with these rubbish (in my view) bottle shelves, which I cut out...

...and replaced with a square grid of matching wild mango recycled from another piece of furniture bought from the same place for the specific purpose of doing this job.
Turned out looking like this:

Original rack had space for 12 bottles (which is quite frankly not enough!!!) and had an open back.
Upcycled version has 20 slots and has a solid back panel.

It replaces a pine rack that had a 24 bottle capacity, but this mango one now matches the rest of the house furniture. It's rustic - a bit bent/twisted and split in a couple of places - but that means my "less than perfect" handiwork fits in with the overall aesthetic :)

I forgot to add - that wine rack definitely needs a new drawer handle, but I'm having difficulty finding a drawer pull or drawer ring with a 40mm diameter backing plate. The search continues...

There is another way to do wine racks, this is one I made to fill in an odd gap after altering the kitchen. Lot easier than shelves and uprights.

I like how something uncomplicated but well made can look so elegant. But I think @Hypnotic Chimera has pinched most of your wine 🍷 🫣🫣🫣
Haha, I used to consume far too much of it so it was gone pretty quickly anyway. Hardly touch any alcohol now.
Yes I know boring!
@Stigmorgan no sorry quite an old pic.

Maybe they just had a "merry Christmas and new year 🤔 🤪

As did me and Mrs HC.
Our 24 bottle rack was full and we had a few more besides. Hence I had to wait to swap them over.

It's also my Birthday tomorrow. (In 10 minutes time). We're taking a bus ride into Lincoln to visit Turtle Bay for a goat curry and to get mashed on bottomless cocktails.
Back to work on Wed as a consequence, rather than tomorrow.

That sounds like a good plan so happy birthday 🥳 however i have a West Indian heritage so i must pull you up it’s “curry goat “ not goat curry lol 😂 😂. Gordon Ramsey caused a stir when he visited a West Indian takeaway in Birmingham a few years ago and asked about goat curry 🫣🫣🫣

I stand corrected.

Happy birthday 🎂

As a teenager, a soldier and for a while after I used to drink quite a bit, not so much that anyone would think I had a problem but I would be out with the lads 2 or 3 times a week, these days it can be months between having a few drinks, too expensive and I don't really enjoy the taste so much anymore.

Here’s some photo frames I made for my friends for Christmas. First time using a router, and first time trying the steel wool + vinegar trick to darken oak. Really happy with how they came out, albeit maybe not the best mitre joints.
Looking good to me. The look of the joints suits the wood grain if you ask me.

Thanks all! Yeah definitely quite happy with the finished outcome. I built a mitre sled for it, but might need to revisit as theres a smidge of wobble in the runners. On to a radiator cat bed next to replace the dining room chair that we've lost to the radiator to appease the cat.
