I have just laminated a curve using 1.5mm aeroply and walnut paper backed veneer. The paper backed veneer does not seem to have bonded well using cascamite and I can peel it off.

Would I be better off using cascamite between the layers of aeroply and a pva on the paper backed veneer?

Thanks

Bumping up as I suspect everyone must have been eating their tea when I posted.

Should cascamite be ok for paper backed veneer or would pva be better?

What do you mean by peeling off? Is it peeling taking the paper with it or does the paper stick to the cascamiite?
And how are you pressing it, have you got a nice even pressure over the whole area of veneer?
I've never seen or used paper backed veneer but can't think why it should not work.

I can peel the veneer including the paper backing off from the ply substrate. The press I am using is a 2 part male / female press which I clamp together with sash clamps.

You maybe onto something regarding even pressure. Although the clamping mechanism works well, it might not be putting enough pressure on the veneer. I'll try a sample using the vac bag to see if the adhesion is better done that way.

The reason I wanted to check, was that all of the articles I have read seem to indicate you use contact adhesive for sticking paper backed veneer. That to me seems like a right royal pain in the *%£^ as I just want to be able to glue the curved component up in one go, rather than having to use one glue for bonding the aeroply pieces and another to bond the flexi veneer to the aeroply.

As I said I have never used paper backed veneer but I imagine it's main market is using it like a laminate as in formica, for site work and really awkward or one off jobs where you can't use a press of any kind so the contact adhesive would then make sense.
