pollmeier (https://www.pollmeier.com/) was mentionned is a recent thread, I have never heard of them.
Is it cost effective for small(ish) quatitites i.e. sawn timber for couple of 5 bar field gates to the UK.
Is the timber quality good..
Their solid wood products are of European beech, which may be of high quality, but useless for field gates with beech being non-durable. A gate made of this stuff will almost certainly fail within five to seven years, even away from ground contact. Durability in ground contact is the key for describing wood durability, and beech falls into the non-durable category. Slainte.

As said by Sgian Dubh Beech is totally non durable except at 5 to 7 years he is being optimistic.
Beech was imported into Old Leigh as sawn through tree trunks for many years to the Timber wharf & if you slipped the lads in the yard a fiver they would slide a flitch over the wall into the alleyway for you.
Much was used in boats & was nicknamed "Leigh Oak", everyone who used it regreted it within a few years at most as it rotted with extreme speed literally turning to crean colured mush in no time.
It is ok if permanently submerged in salt water & was sometimes used for keels on boats but if it gets wet & dry it doesnt last 5 minutes.
