I missed your post somehow. What kit do you have? How was it to build? Can we see some pics please.

I'd be most interested in any information as I'd like to make a large smoother kit sometime in the future.

I think you'll find that David Charlesworth built one a few years ago, I might be able to find the articles he wrote if you're interested.

2006 and earlier not the 2007 as the name has been taken by a new company. The info is fractured but you may be able to dig out enough history.
In general nobody seemed to like to say but the kits were pretty awful and the reason for their demise was clear. I have a smoother that I made but haven't quite finished and a panel plane kit not yet started. I have had so many other things to do just not got round to it. Want to buy a kit :wink:

I'll see if I can find time to take pics actually I have some already somewhere ...pre construction I'll look later

Allan, that web archive is a handy resource, I've not come across it before.

Unfortunately I'll have to say no to the offer of buying the kit, but wouldn't mind a gander at the instruction manual if that's OK, I've heard good things about their instructions.

DO NOT MUCK AROUND WITH YOUR INSTRUCTION MANUAL STYLE!!

The current instruction manual you did for the little plane is good, concise, friendly, reassuring.

By The Way - have got up to "make or Break" and everything has gone to plan - have surprised myself in not cocking up yet!
I'm putting it to one side for a week as I'm busy with other stuff & don't want to rush it.
Am finding it a most enjoyable project :lol:

How are you "others" getting on??

I'm glad however that the build is going to plan.

I've not heard from the others as yet, but I know that Harbo had visitors last week, and wouldn't be doing any work on his kit until at least this week.

Work on the small smoother kit is progressing slowly. I had the same problem with the Laser profiling of the soles as with the Shoulder plane soles. I think that I've managed to recover one sole by annealing it, but time will tell. I'll get back onto it next week - I'm a bit busy this week looking after the kids and trying to sort out a website.

Ok, at the moment I have only a pic of the pre constructed smoother. I don't know when I am going to find the time to dig out the other one so we'll see how that goes. At the time the first tote for the smoother had a hole machined through so was no good, and one of the shouders didn't fit. On the panel plane the infills were not wide enough for the sole. I have a pic but no point showing that. The quality of the steel for the sole was poor when flattening it would pick up and spall. The blade was very good quality but they surface ground the back to flatten it :roll: so being A2 it was/is very hard to undo their interference.

Thanks Allan, that kit seems quite do-able. Pity about the iron though, they seem to have taken it either a step too far, or not far enough, surely they should have ground the entire back.
