Just received a catalogue from Bristol Design (Tools) Ltd which includes a range of wood filled plane kits - most based on Norris designs and available in different stages of completeness (from sand castings to finished product).
Anybody got experience of them?
They also sell their own range of hammer forged chisels and gouges.

I made their thumbplane - came out well but a lot of work is involved. As in metalwork.......
I have two others to make when I get the time,
Cheers

Working from a casting is harder than working from dovetailed plates.

I'm not sure it would be possible to work a cast plane without some machinery.

When I was in Philly's w'shop last I saw the castings from Bristol Design and they are fairly rough. I think Bugbear is right in that a milling machine at the very least would be needed to clean up the inside faces but would still involve a lot of work - Rob

I have a friend that also has almost done one of they planes and it is alot of work to do by hand
