hi all, finally got on here. anyone else had probs getting on site??

anyway my question.
i have a plane iron marked "SAMUEL NEWBOULD"
its 2.3/8 inch wide,has a semi curcular top, 4mm thick at business end tapering to about 2.5mm.
anyone know anything about it? googled but came up with nothing

Its early but sorry I don`t have the date reference to hand at the moment...

There are a few refs here at google.......
samuel newbould tools
 
Samuel Newbold were a company based in Sheffied and Est in 1776.

We used to deal with them. They were a blade manufacturer, from Small Plane Irons to large circular saw blades (See Pic)

They were taken over some years ago, but I dont think the new company are still going.

3/16" (~= 4.7mm) is the usual size for a tapered iron in an old wooden plane.
