Just plan the high spots and leave the low spots, hardly rocket science!
+1 just get on with it lol I'd use a no5 then a no7 or no8 as jacob suggested, it'll be flat in no time, if it's too twisted just use another piece, sometimes it's not worth the effort with some pieces, they should either be burnt or used for something else.

Well yes but it does help to mark up the high areas - you can see where you've been when you plane the marks off. Then you mark up again - just quick scribbles etc as shown by plane edge or straightedge. It's much faster in the end, rather than blindly attacking, and you don't overshoot.

Too twisted - set aside for shorter pieces.
