Marc,

Intrigued by your armoury of spokeshaves, what do you use them for?

There is in fact plenty of new stuff in book 3, as well as some better exposition of earlier themes.

I'm afraid the shrunken photos were inflicted by THE DESIGNER against my wishes. The text was given lavish space at the expense of Bob's excellent photos, and the graphic artist appeared to be unable to read a technical drawing.

An author's lot is not a happy one, ha...ppy o.....ne

Indeed. I wish there were a convenient way to sell web pages, since there space (per se) is close to free, and (sq inch) size constraints need not be imposed on designs.

David C,

To echo your 'author's lament'

'When a carpenter attempts his plane to fettle (plane to fettle)
His aim is to remove all bumps and dips (bumps and dips)
The chipbreaker must be allowed to settle (lowed to settle)
For what he wants is more efficient chips (fish and chips)'

Ho hum, must get out more.........

P.S. How's the juggling practice ?.................

Hi all,

I'm sorry to be late, I had to fettle some new spokeshaves

I'm fettling the spokeshaves for work. I'm a teacher in a primary school and I saw that kids of 11 and 12 often enjoy woodworking instead of cutting and folding paper or cardboard. So I grabbed the chance to buy some woodworking tools for our shop room in the school, including braces, hand drills, handsaws, fret saws and of course tools for working stones, argile...

As I had a budget I bought Kunz spokeshaves. And I have to note with gladness the quality has improved. I saw differences above all on the blades. Back flattening was a point I actually feared of when I ordered these 25 shaves. But as you can see on the pic, the shapton glass stone 500 made a near to perfect job with a minimum of 100 strokes and a maximum of 200 strokes per blade. I was impressed. The bevel was okay too, so I could easily add a micro bevel.

I guess, everything is okay with my relation to spokeshaves  and I will be actually glad to have finished fettling work on the other 19 shaves.

And I own 5 spokeshaves on my own.

No Paul,

I don't have that one, it was too expensive for my school budget. But I would have preferred it . Flattening the "frog" is easier done on a scrap of mdf with some sandpaper attached. I guess the weak point compared to the Stanley are the screws which actually are of simple quality on my models.

Question for David C - when is the plane fettling DVD coming out?

Cheers

Karl

Paul,
Excellent rhyme, juggling no practice yet, so no progress :-(

Karl,
Having editing problems and so probably not before September.
