I'm working on a piece of pitch pine plywood for a low table top. I was surprised to find that unlike modern plys which use inexpensive core material, this is pitch pine right through, so the edges show the interesting grain patterns too.

Any one any idea how old this material might be ? The items history is industrial but I've no more data than that.

Rob,

I have some bits of this plywood from an old bedroom suite I dismantled. It was a wartime-post wartime 'Utility' furniture piece. It's great stuff, although I think mine is Douglas fir rather than pitch-pine. I use the bits I have for watercolour boards as they don't warp and they don't discolour the back of the paper.
I have seen this stuff in furniture used in Government Buildings too, especially the older establishments, like Devonport Barracks that was! :D

I hope this helps with regard to tracing your timber, albeit that you might not need the 'painting' info!

regards
John :D
