Pine weather protection

I have just finished a pair a Adirondack chairs that will spend spring/summer(if it ever arrives) outdoors.They are made from off the shelf pine from the local timber merchant.My original intention was to paint them with Cuprinol garden shades but I now am inclined to give them a natrual finish.I have read that OSMO UV PROTECTION OIL 410 could be the stuff to use.I would appreciate any suggestions.

Unless your pine was pressure treated I would be inclined to treat it with a compatible clear wood preservative first. I expect Osmo have one in their range. If in doubt, the technical departments of finish manufacturers are very helpful and I have no doubt that Osmo's would be glad to advise you. I have not used this product but it appears to be suitable for the job.

I've had good results with the OSMO UV protective oil on oak. It does take a long time to dry (a good 24 hours in warmish weather, longer if it's cold) and it does darken the wood slightly - but on pine that will probably just bring out the grain rather nicely.

Osmo also do a product that is supposed to remove the nasty "grey" look of weathered external wood, which you can use before the UV protection oil if required.

You will need to recoat the chairs with Osmo UV protection oil every couple of years to keep them looking at there best.

Thanks guys,I had a word with Osmo and have gone for 2 coats of UV 420.A normal Spring/Summer should give them a decent test!
