Hi

I am hoping someone can help me as I am looking to purchase a bench mounted pillar drill. This is for my father for Christmas but I have very little knowledge in this area so I am unsure really what I am looking at or for!

Unfortunately my budget is only £130 which from what I've read doesn't buy me a great deal. ideally I would like to buy new and given the Xmas deadline looking for a Fobco or Meddings isn't really an option.

In terms of useage, my father will only be using this for occasional light/medium domestic purposes so it won't have a hard life.

Having researched the internet there are a number of options available within my budget. The drills I have found are:

Sealey SDM30
Axminster
Jet (Axminster)
SIP
Fox
Draper
Hilka
Einhell

I can't find any proper reviews on-line only a handful of customer feedback reviews which given a mixed result so there is no consistency.

Whilst I have a very limited budget, I would still like to get something that is up to the job and give a reasonable performance especially as it won't get over worked or be used for major jobs.

If anyone has any experience of these drills or can help me arrive at a decision it would be really appreciated.

Many thanks

I recently acquired an Axminster bench drill: http://www.axminster.co.uk/axminster-ax ... rod719342/

Although I don't have experience of other drills on the market at this price range I would say this particular drill is good value for money. And it was delivered to me next day.
Personally I would of preferred a key chuck instead of the keyless version which came with the drill.
But aside from that I am happy with it so far.
Beware that minor assembly is required although it is fairly straight forward and I think it took me just over an hour.

I have a Delta multi speed ....bought secondhand but is a joy to use ....if i had not got this i would have probably gone the Axi route

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts, it has been most helpful and after viewing your posts I have opted for the Axminster which I am sure my father will be delighted with.

Thanks again.
