Pierced bowl mini WIP

Decided to have a go at something other than plain bowls as I have not done any decorated pieces for a little while now.

I started by turning a bowl with thin walls and bottom about 1/8" all the way around except for the foot which is just a fraction thicker.

I divided the lip into six and drew a line down from there, using templates to mark out oval shapes centred on these lines. Unfortunatly there where no photos of this stage

I made a start and managed to complete two of these on the first day.

Then today after some repairs to the hinges on one of my wood stores and taking the wife shopping. Well you have to keep the wife happy and the food cupboard stocked. I hate working in the workshop on an empty stomach.

After doing all of the little jobs I managed some more work on this piece this picture will give more of an idea of how it will look. And there are still two more panels to pierce. So that is as far as I have managed so far will follow up with more as I progress. Tomorrow will be more of the same on the last two panels

Each panel has to be pierced then filed with needle files to clean up any bits. I keep stopping to give my hand a rest and have a coffee

I like the balance of solid and pierced; it's something different yet familiar.

I used one of THESE but in Axminster white colours with a drill attachment and one of THESE as the cutting bit.

Not done much over the past few days as it was too hot to spray with the airbrush. Anyway managed to get the first colour on to this piece now the temperature has dropped a bit.
Sprayed Chestnut iridescent paint over ebonising spray.

Well it is all finished. This is one of those bowls that the colour is either a love it or hate it. Turned thin from Field Maple and the 6 pierced oval panels painted with iridescent paints, Measures 6" X 2 1/2"

How did you keep the colours separate? Spray mauve & hand paint green perhaps?
