Hi,
I was wondering if there is a way of picking out details to make them a darker shade than the surrounding wood (either paint or a stain), my best idea is a small paint brush by hand, but it's time consuming!
I'm talking about small details (think half a mm deep, 30mm high 4 mm wide engraved lines), any help would be great!
Thanks in advance,
Mark.

If detailing done slightly deeper on stock before final finishing the whole surface can be suitably sealed to stop paint penetration in wood surface then sprayed and surface machined or sanded back to leave coloured indented detail.

Used to do this on some simple signs, of no use if you have already completed the piece and detailing though.

That's a great idea with stopping the paint penetrating, any idea what would prevent spray paint from adhering to the surface, varnish?

I used a couple of coats of Cellulose sanding sealer, doesn't stop paint adhering to surface but stops it wicking into wood and any surface pores.
Face Surface can then be machined off leaving highlighted details.
