Whilst being a chippy I obtained a degree in interior design and thus loadsa qualifications in auto cad. Before Cad I drew everything on my drawing board, I loved it! At first being introduced to autocad I was a massive sceptic, anyone can learn how to use a computer, but only a few can be good draftsman, however its been a few years since then and now everything I ever make, after the design process involves a cad drawing. It wasn't until the other day someone gave me an ink rotering set, It reminded me of how I loved technical drawing on a board rather than a computer screen. I just wondered how many of you still use pencil and ink rather than a computer? It's obviously a time thing, but I couldn't help but compare it to how powertools have became the be all and end all.
I have an apprentice where I work and he is so quick to pick up the skill saw, or the laminate trimmer etc. I was always told as an apprentice If I couldn't do the task with handtools don't use power tools to do it until I could. i'm only 27 and cant help but think i'm sounding like an old fella!
