true but if the blade non locking and less than three inches (which most swiss army knives are) and he wasnt doing anything stupid with it then he wasnt breaking the law by having it in his possesion

It looks like it was one of these - I think the 'swiss army knife' tag is typical DM spin. They seem to both lock, and be over 3". With the aggressive weapon styling, I'm not entirely surprised at the arrest, right or wrong as it may be.

if it was one of those then thats different - i assumed we were talking about a standard victorinox ie a swiss army knife.

if it was one of those then as ironballs said he needs a good reason to have it in his possesion, and "using it to cut up fruit on picnics" doesnt make the grade for having it when driving away from a pub at 11pm

its still OTT on the police officers part, but maybe we dont know the full story - he may have been provoked, as they dont routine search cars for a traffic stop anyway.

I can recall a story where the night shift was a bit quiet and they decided to have a prize given for the most unusal arrest of the night.

Typical DM distortion.

Got the Buck reference from here (this journo also compares it with a swiss army knife, presumably this is because it is a multi-tool rather than a single blade).

Note the hilarious comment about Swiss shunning combat just to make the whole episode even more outrageous*

Quite.

As if that isn't bad enough do you remember this one?

He was clearly in full control of his vehicle and once again it's PM gone mad

Did it ever go to court? Because back in January he was adamant that he was not going to pay the fine, and the Procurator Fiscal was equally as adamant that he would be taken to court if he didn't.

Cheers

This is what really Zilch-Wedlock me off about the media. They present what appears to be a straight forward story, but more often than not when you dig below the surface the truth is something different. It's difficult to run a democracy with a media like that.

Sounds suspiciously FOAF to me.

Thanks BSM and Jake, PC corrected

That one sounded like an power-mad cop, rather than any PCness.

Hi Jake, although I cannot find it now I did read at the time that even his work mates thought roughly the same as you

Cheers
