Very clever bit of design work there. I think the cutting out would need to be spot on, there might also be some trouble with 'spelching' or break out on the reverse side as the shapes are cut out (across the grain) unless a very fine toothed blade were used and in that case I'm glad I'm not the one cutting it all out :) - Rob

On the upside they can be piled high on a pallet and shipped off to needy places - on the down side they've very much fallen from the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down.
Cheers Mike

...so you wouldn't want to include this in Tony's 'Interesting Pieces of Furniture' thread then Mike? - Rob

Well its interesting, just not very attractive. It's a brilliant idea for shipping flat packed out to the Sahara or wherever for setting up schools etc sadly i suspect it comes with a designer price tag which rather spoils it's value. Still value is measured by what people will pay and I spose some one somewhere will like it.

Cheers Mike

Mike - agree, it's a very clever design but it's probably got a 'designer' label hung on it somewhere which means as you say, it's got a price to match - Rob

Amazing! , Clever! - actually it looks a piece of crap to me - an experiment with a water jet cutter, yes, but no way is it a good practical design. Functionally, how long is it going to last before it lurches and creaks every time you sit on it, or worse it just collapses in bits - not long I suspect!

Compared to, say Eames, that is.

Really, really clever. Portable, flat storage, min parts. I don't think longevity was part of the brief. Looks like something that would interest DaveR over on design.

Sorry Ike, don't like the Eames either!

I'm not overly keen on the aesthetics (apart from the walnut/rosewood veneers) , but I do thinks it's a good practical design.

Yes I agree. It seems more of a design exercise. It's ambiguous to me whether this is a regular for sale, production item or a 'gallery' piece?

I like it.
Found the english description a bit puzzling, so tested out my very rusty french by trying to read that description. It mentions CNC, but doesn't say anything about water jet cutting as far as I can make out.
Does waterjet cutting work that precisely for wood? (I've no idea!)

Yes it does, the main problem would be divergence. the widening of the cut as the cutting media passes through the wood.
