Someone just sent me this:

I have a little Satnav, it sits there in my car
a Satnav is a driver's friend it tells you where you are.

I have a little Satnav, I've had it all my life,
it's better than the normal ones, my Satnav is my wife.

It gives me full instructions, especially how to drive
"It's sixty miles an hour", it says, "You're doing sixty five"

It tells me when to stop and start, and when to use the brake,
and tells me that it's never ever, safe to overtake.

It tells me when a light is red, and when it goes to green
it seems to know instinctively, just when to intervene.

It lists the vehicles just in front, and all those to the rear
and taking this into account, it specifies my gear.

I'm sure no other driver has so helpful a device,
for when we leave and lock the car, it still gives its advice.

It fills me up with counselling, each journey's pretty fraught
so why don't I exchange it, and get a quieter sort?

Ah well, you see, it cleans the house, makes sure I'm properly fed
it washes all my shirts and things, and keeps me warm in bed!

Despite all these advantages and my tendency to scoff
I only wish that now and then, I could turn the bugger off.

+1

I like to spend my first hour in quiet reading the news [and this forum], or so I think, never get the chance 'cause within 10 mins of rising my other half is already into full stream-of-consciousness overdrive. AArrgh! (hammer)

I've seen several posts on several forums attributing this to the wonderful Pam, but
the only "source" I can find is an ebook by "Rubi Red" called "Turn Left at the Ocean",
which contains this poem on page 26. The book was published in Aug 2012, and there
is no attribution of poem.

I cannot find a copy or version of this poem on the net pre-dating Aug 2012.

I therefore tentatively conclude that Rubi Red wrote the poem, but that it sounds
like Pam Ayres style, and that people have assumed it's by Pam.

Anyone got a book by Pam Ayres with this poem?

Yeah, I wish I knew myself, but the person who sent it to me said exactly what I wrote: "by Pam Eyres I think".

It's very much like that one I posted a few months ago about 50 Shades of Grey - I'm no poetry expert but that too seemed to be just like Pam Eyres but there were some doubts expressed at the time.

Ah well ......

Happy New year to all

‏@PamAyres Just for info, there is currently a poem about a satnav doing the rounds. It is supposed to be by me, but I've never seen it in my life.

I have had the exact same model for fifty years, still on the same battery, and going strong.

I think the one I have is the deluxe model though, as it can completely take over the driving if required.

Take care.

Chris.

"If required" Chris? "IF required"? You lucky so n so, mine INSISTS!

BTW, what's the update procedure on yours? Mine includes lots of flowers, goodies, etc, etc, at regular intervals. I think Tom Tom or Garmin would be cheaper.

:D

Must be the same model sat nav that I have :D :D
Alan

Yep! Me too, I have the early version, no volume control.

Reminds me of an ad reported somewhere in the country,
"Complete set of Encyclopedia Britannica for sale, not needed, Wife knows everything"
