Finally picked up me outboard attachment over the weekend and managed to fit it with no problems, all four 8mm holes i marked and drilled in the Hegner legs lined up perfectly
So i treated the bench to a coat of black paint as the other three colours didn't go,and black was all i had
So i also was finally able to make a start on those three big Beech slices i have had since last October.
Glad to say that they were pretty dry and hardley any splits
Here is me new look bench and the Outboard attachment fitted.
It is a very sturdy piece of kit
Managed to cut the slices into round blanks. The biggest been 26" dia.
The other big un is 24",and the small ones are 13" dia.
First problem was a great big nail stuck in the middle of the biggest blank, which was the one i was going to turn.
After 20 minutes of digging
Finally got it out.How long it's been in the tree i aint a clue.
This slice was from the middle,so must have been put in early on.
Got the blank mounted with the use of my 6" face plate and a dozen screws, and set up the attachment ready to go.
Finally getting it into balance.
This will be the underside.
Here is the base finished with an oil finish, and using a recess to reverse hold it.
Here is the blank reversed, and showing some inclusions.
Glad to say that the inclusions turned out,so all is looking good.
I was concerned that the defects would go deeper,so took it steady just in case it wanted to split in half

So that's as far as i got today.
