Agree that works Stuart, makes mitreing architraves and fitting skirtings neatly slightly more work. Also really need a router handy if doing it on site.

Yeah, your right Dennis. It's certainly more work, and under normal circumstances you wouldn't do it this way. Given the situation that we are trying to address, it's what I would do.

The trouble is Stuart, like a lot of the situations that arise on the forum, you really need to see it first hand to decide how you would tackle it.

It is often a toss of a coin on how you overcome a problem, made easier if you see it first hand.

Some of the problems that arise on the forum are really quite simple to overcome, it is often harder to explain in the written word than to show what you mean. You also get lots of conflicting solutions, which does not always help. But everyone tends to think that their solution is the correct one.

Absolutely, luckily mine is.

You're right, it's not possible to offer a definative solution witho out seeing it. All we can do is offer advice and hope that the OP has enough sense to pick out what is relevant.

I have used purpose made pre-finished architraves with a shallow groove like that, on a hospital, but as we had used temporary linings the plaster was pretty good, so no problem with mitres.
