I had a very unfortunate experience with a bottle of Bells when I was about 15, and the very smell of the stuff still makes me want to throw up 30-odd years later.

Funnily enough, peaty malts like Laophroig don't have the same effect; neither do whiskey or bourbon, all of which I enjoy.

Bells, though...

Pernod the same for me. 15yrs old, woke up in a pool of my own vomit. Now anything with aniseed makes me go all faint.

Happy Xmas everyone ;)

Have to say i'm with the other 'Spirit - haters' here.

I've tried various whiskeys over the years - found them all revolting :( Too much like turps for me....

DAMHIKT .....

Some friends of mine drink the stuff like it's water, tho. Must be 'marmite' thing.

Mery Crimbosolus! :D

Can't believe how many don't enjoy a wee dram or two, anyway, all the more for me  :ho2

Cheers, Paul :D

Had exactly the same experience at about the same age - also with bells  It was only about 7 or 8 years ago that my then boss got me to try some Irish whiskey and I now enjoy an occasional glass of Whiskey - my preference being for Black Bush. Like you, the smell of 'cheap' whisky turns my stomach even now.

You`ve not had whiskey till you partake of a Jug of White lightning...cost heck we make it....yep Corn Licker the best, makes you howl at the moon. You know its good because the Government is always trying to shut the stills down.Just got to find the right hill folk to get the best mash.

White Lightening over here is a popular cider drink for under-age teenagers

Who makes yours?? Over here ours will strip paint,or knock you off of your feet ...I saw a guy down 3 glasses and get thrown out of a card game because he was playing 4 cards at once in 7 card draw poker. While I know you guys have some Strong Whiskey thats the stuff (White Lightning) that you get down south and if you drink it with Orange Juice you can not remember where you`ve been...

I won a draw at work just before Christmas so I treated myself to a bottle of 15 year old Glenlivet...and then my daughter got me a bottle of 15 year old Dalwhinnie on Christmas day. It's a hard life :-({|= but somebody's got to drink it  - Rob

I'm struggling for the third, although I managed to pick up a bottle of Rose Bank recently. Older is definately better :D
