I have a large project in the pipeline which involves using a lot of True Olive veneer(not Olive Ash).
Does anyone have experience of this type of veneer and any possible drawbacks.

Why not give crispin a ring and ask for a sample leaf. Should be enough for a few tests. They are pretty good with samples. They have been relocating due to the 2012 games but should be fully operational

What type of work is involved and what finishes are you hoping to apply. Also, what is your set-up for veneering?

Already have a sample, customer wants a matt finish, haven't tried it yet.
Vacuum bag and small press, but I'm thinking of farming it out so I need to know what problems the sub contractor is going to throw at me.

Hi Dom

What are you getting veneered and what do you think might be a problem ?

I dont think I have use Olive before but I have done a lot of veneering so I might have that wrong

Hi Colin it will be going on MR MDF and I was concerned about available sizes and oiliness, having seen those two sites i may try and dissuade the customer as large sheets don't seem readily available.

Dom,
You might want to visit these people http://www.english-veneer.com/english_v ... neers.html they are based in Ware so I guess not too far from you.

I found them very helpful and although their place is a bit like Santa's workshop, they have big heated platten presses and seem to veneer full size MDF sheets with anything - see the list. I spotted a couple of guys working carefully to patch veneer with (inevitable) defects before the glue up in a job they were doing and my order for some glued up veneer was done well.

Dom- if the place in Ware is Petherwicks, then I know their work is pretty good.
Uh oh, now you know i'm not to far from you ................... yeh, I eerm once visited them whilst on holiday from the outer hebrides.
