I knew this was going to be a Pig to save.
So much rust a few attempts to save it in the past.

Every Stud, nut and bolt was so rusted they had merged into one lump.

Meaning each one had to be cut off and punched out.

When dissembling was going on, this and other cracks showed up.

Extra care, heat and oil was used, but............

TIG welding was looked into, but the cost ruled that out.
So a Jig was made and OA brazing was used.

The flanged was brazed up, as was the body bowl. But it showed the whole bowl was riddled with micro cracks.

So the flange and bowl wee reinforced with 3 layers of Glass fibre matting.

This should give a clue of how much of the cast iron was lost due to rust.

So all the cast iron parts were soaked in Citric acid.

Well not all.

Part 2.

A cutting disc was used to cut through the remains of the rusted feed pip. Then 2 hard wood wedges were used to open the cut and allow me to remove it.

More rust in the pump body, some seized fixings and the remains of the gasket.

The gasket was removed with off the shelf gasket remover. It was about 3mm thick.

Paint remover, in the form of Caustic soda paste on a warm casting.

This removed the crus, the paint and the manufactures label. This was to bug me later. I took images of the label, the whiteness marks and its location.

Drilling out another fixing.
All the holes were drilled out to an imperial size.

Brut force applied with care to a stepped punch had another one removed.

Drying the parts on a stove. Before the old paint was removed. Then it was back into the citric acid.
Removed, baked dry and then left in a box of silica gel before metal paint was applied.

This bugged me from the time it fell off until it was reordered on.

It will only fit upside down.
So either from new or at one point it fell off and was refixed the wrong way.

Part 3.

Part of a old church pew being reused. It was sanded back, stained with a coffee stain and waxed.

The wood screws were replaced with coach screws.

It could pump water again, as a new cup washer and flap valve have been fitted.
