For those of us of a 'certain age' and interests this will be trip down memory lane.
Took our rubbish to the 'recycling centre' this morning and fell over an old WW2? Cosser oscilloscope. Now I wonder where I'm gonna get a circuit diagram for that!!
Plus something for a hernia!!

Roy.

Yep! Just found out that it ways 40 lb!
Makes my others feel like light weights.

I recently got rid of a Telequipment storage scope....put it up on fleaBay as it was driving me MAD! The thing needed more work on it...caps going pop...rectifiers...the whole works...it needed more fiddling than the old valve amps that I was trying to fix.

A bit like fixing a trolley jack every time you need to service a car...

It fetched a tenner for bits...and I bought a modern one. Now I can work on old gear with new gear that works.

Ditto Jim. Otherwise it's bit like the old joke about the wheel tapper's hammer!.
Just took the case off. About three generations of dust and spiders but complete. The Mains cord is past redemption though. As I lack a Variac to raise the supply voltage gradually a drying out period is the first step I think.

wow! they let you take something from the tip? they are very strict indeed at our local tips. Absolutely nothing is allowed to be taken (even in exchange for cash)!!

I've asked many times if I can have / buy bits and I'm always told absolutely not.

Used to be able to until a few years ago.

Good luck fixing it up

The people at the dump, or the recycling centres as we call them now even though they look rather similar, are like chairmen of the local golf club, their one bit of power in the entire world is regulating who gets to touch what rubbish and where you can put it, outside their little world they're nothing, we get to drive away, they have to stay there FOREVER!

Had a similar experience today at our tip and I knew the guy personally! I was scrapping old garage crap when I saw some really nice pine boards on the wood pile. Asked if I could take them then offered cash, no deal :( I would have used them, now they are probably destined for the chipper.

I just do a magician trick...take something...take it near what I want...pick up what I want...take it back to the car moaning at the wife that what I have is not to be scrapped...pick up more rubbish from the car...repeat...

:D

We up the tip all the time and the guys there are generally really friendly and helpful. If you have something that's a bit difficult to move a couple will always come over and help. It sounds wierd but it actually makes me want to try to recycle as much of my rubbish as I can.

The one thing they won't allow though is taking things from the site. It's crazy because there is so much fantastic stuff to be had there. I swear half of what gets chucked is still working. I nearly cried the other day when I saw someone throwing out a full set of apparently perfect hardwood garden furniture.

Anyone a member of freecycle.org?

I picked up this:

for nuffink!

Rich guy in this huge house in West Kent was throwing it out and for the first time ever I was at home when the email came in...I typed like I was going mad and then waited! Hurrah!

Quite a lot of hardwood furniture gets put up there too....mind you...you have to troll through hundreds of emails offering breast pumps to get there!!!

:D
