thanks Steve how is your new saw working out for you?
Ian no its not a business for the chess sat l have asked £150 and he seemed to like the price l thought {hoped }he would have said no but alas he said ok

Your bluff was called :)
I've resisted all requests for my work - otherwise I can't possibly justify the time I spent, and I'd have to actually finish my projects (on time).

:)

????
l too also finish my projects on time some times before so don't know what you mean?

hi graham
i have only had time to unbox it and plug it in so far, hopefully get a chance to use it tomorrow..

Next time someone wants one quote £300 , lol

thanks Steve l will take your advise lol
hope it all goes well with your new toy hope to see some more of your work soon,

I know the feeling in a way , someone has asked me to make them 20 reindeer that I make in one way I don't mind because I am getting paid but they are a bit time consuming on the plus side I keep thinking about what new toys I going to buy with the money I make I usually save it up throughout the year then wait for santa (and my daughter does too) 8)

If I wanted to sell anything, I could never get paid for my time. The fretwork loco I am cutting would be hundreds of pounds if I charged for my time the same as I charged as a self-employed mechanic, (£20/hr) but in reality, someone might pay 20 quid for it. Someone just asked me to cut him two portraits, one of his daughter and one of his Vespa scooter. He doesn't realise that I have to spend time at the computer just to make the patterns, never mind cut them out. Luckily I enjoy doing it, so he'll get them for nothing.

Martin.

Graham , that looks a beautiful set ? of chess pieces . as has been mentioned I don't think you can ever be paid for what you create with your saw . lovely work .

I have never made anything as time consuming as Grahams wonderful chess board set but if I did I feel it would be close to £200 if I sold it. A friend of mine makes traditional Welsh dressers and they are a work of art. He had a lady come to his workshop and she asked him to make her one. He asked her how much she wanted to spend and she said she would go up to £1000, My friend told her to go to Ikea. Its difficult to put a price on the work we do, we are never going to realise £15 an hour, which is what i would get as a carpenter/joiner. I do what I do because I simply love it and I have to sell it so I can make some more. Its all I can do as I can no longer work on the tools. I have been told many times that my prices are very reasonable and that's probably why I sell a lot. With me though everything I sell has to quick and easy to make.
