New year, new project!

I'm planning to replace my kitchen cabinet doors and thought that oak-veneered MDF might be a good option. I’d love to hear your thoughts on the following:
  • Has anyone ordered oak-veneered MDF cut to size and edge-banded?
  • Does anyone have experience with Uniboards?
  • Would 16mm thickness be sufficient, or should I go for 19mm?
  • Lastly, should I have it professionally lacquered, or would applying Osmo oil myself be a better option?
Thank you in advance.

You may well already have finished the job but….
I used to make oak veneer doors from 19mm oak veneered ply with glued oak edge banding. If the client could be persuaded I preferred a solid oak surround with a 9mm veneer inset panel. I always felt the flat panel style looked a bit strange with oak. I used to spray them myself, but I’ve used Osmo successfully on other wooden kitchen doors.

I'm ordering the panels for CNC cutting this week. I'll be using ply without edge banding since I like the look and want to avoid the risk of the edging wearing out over time with extensive use. I plan to sand the edges and apply Osmo Polyx myself.
