Apologies if this in the wrong place.

I wondered what shops were in the area for both timber and tools. I have a few tool, but could do with a few more, and I don't particularly want to go to B&Q for them.

I also wondered if anyone knew of any clubs/courses in the area to help get started.

Thanks

Kegworth had an amazing turning club if that's your bag. Elvaston Castle host a woodland festival later in the year.

Welcome to ukw , it will help if you tell us what you intend make and what tools you have. Power or hand tools etc etc .
I'm a hand tool guy at the moment and got a few. Next up is acquiring a plane.

In terms of making, first up is ideally a toy box for my lad. After that I'm not sure.

Ok that’s cool, check the for sale section of this forum for the tools you might need. EBay , Facebook Marketplace etc ( jyst be aware of potential scams ) again there are plenty of examples of what members have made in the post a picture of what you last made threads . From all abilities and skill sets. Good luck

Unfortunately you have missed the woodworking show at Newark showground but you may want to keep an eye out for it next year.

If you are looking for timber (and advice on what you need) speak to Patrick at

Sorry, but I don’t know of any courses local to you.

This has a good reputation if you can justify the travel …

I subscribed to this a few years ago and found it to be useful …

I hope that helps.

You’re not too far from a local Charnwood/Laguna distributor either..they’ve got a shop/showroom in Coalville

Thanks, had a Google, looks really good and ideal. My father in law was close to Axminster tools, but as. So this is ideal. I'll try and pop down over lunch one day.

Possibly more specialised, but David Staley Auctions at Osgathorpe, Leics/Notts border. The bimonthly Wednesday viewing days feature a lot of tool stalls in the paddock. Plenty of planes and hand tools and always interesting to have a natter and browse at weird and wonderful old tools. One later this month.
