It's hard to start a business here though. The area is depressed beyond what i could of anticipated, but thankfully we don't need much to live the rest goes into the woodshop.

It was the same for me when we moved here, I ended up servicing and selling domestic appliances purely by accident.
This area exists on farming and the necessary service industry for farming and tourism.

I started a company called odds and sods to feel out the market and do so many different things. Bathroom reno's, kitchen installs and builds, built-ins, build doors and windows, cabinets, i even built a tree house.

I do what ever i can. There isn't much call for my bench joinery skills but i'm an adaptable person that will do what ever is needed. After a year and a half doing this I have built up enough equipment to almost fill my shop. Now the fun can begin! But I bet my mainstay will be fixing the bodged up jobs around here, well for as long as i am able, very hard on the body.

Just before I retired I visited my GP with back trouble, tests then X-Rays followed.
'You spine is worn out Mr R,' was his explanation.
Caused by lugging washing machines out from under work surfaces.
Moving them out is a bit like doing the twist and our bodies aren't designed for it.
I think in these small communities you have to be adaptable, it gets easier, I found, as you get known.

I don't have to earn a crust from my woodwork skills - an office job pays the bills. My woodwork is an enthusiastically pursued hobby!

Maybe we should look to have a members meet up at Woodfest if those of us in this corner of the world are interested?

I will try to post nearer the time if I am definitely going.

I'm up for that - how about the rest of those in North Wales.

If you haven't already now would be a good time to get on wizer's list for a UKWorkshop badge so we can spot each other.

Looking forward to hearing from everyone else.

regards

Brian

Stop rubbing salt into the wound!
I KNOW in live in the back of beyond damn it!

I'd love to Brian but the round trip is a bit much for me I'm afraid.

Roy.

What direction do you live in Roy? I looked at the event and it doesn't really suite me. Looks more like a logging convention. I left the back woods of canada already lol...

Thanks for the links Brian. I'm on holiday then, which is really disappointing. Would've really enjoyed it, too. :(

wow that is back and beyond. We went on holiday in Little haven last year, it is so beautiful along the coast. We aren't venturing out that far this year. The trip was just to taxing. Perhaps meeting in Aberystwyth wouldn't be to bad if that's not to long a journey.

I'm looking for an excuse to visit Aberystwyth, haven't been for ages.

Roy.
