Hi Alie,

We get brochures thru the door from all the local schools. The education dept have a large adult ed scheme going on, and so i could have gone to any number of local schools to learn.

I would contact Contact the BWA

Secretary, Allan Gill.

Like the clock Loz.

Reminded me of 'WALL-E' from the film of the same name just needed eyes.
Just a suggestion on the design, would it look better with the clock face level with the wood face or even slightly inset?

Thanks John,

Re the clock face. Due to being a class environment, the instructor might pre drill stock, to save time, the clock recess being such a case ( done with a forstner i understand - requiring only cleaning up ) , other cases might be a hole in bowl blanks for screwchucks etc.

Rather than queueing up to use the pillar drill - we can then get on with turning !!!

You are right though, would look better flush ! - and the next one will be !

Thanks Again

Erm - My almost finished bowl died ( murdered by the instructor ) due to the walls being less than a mil thin, He suggested it wasnt safe to continue - and i was being "kamakazi"

So started a new one - not got around to the inside yet - ans still have a little tearout on the outside that i need to clean up - its a nice lump of wood.

Heh heh.. you have to tell him "I'm Loz, and I live on the Edge .. Risky is my middle name, and I thrive on the adrenaline of a wafer thin bowl... I'm the Turner your mother warned you about, and if you can't stand the heat, get out of my .. erm.... lathe area"

'New' one is looking good ! 8) 8) 8)

No sense of adventure these instructors!!
I've never had classes and it hasn't done me any harm! ..... except not knowing what I'm doing half the time ... and bowls exploding now and then .... and making a lot of designer fire wood.

onwards and upwards! bring on the next bowl!! :D

Hi Loz - new one is looking nice;looks like spalted beech ? If so,it is always likely to have a little tearout,as the spalting process is caused by the wood starting to rot - this is where the tips about wetting the timber,or applying a couple of coats of sanding sealer, before light passes with a freshly sharpened chisel apply
Love the shape, the curve flows very well.
