This months project was another much needed bookcase for the Living room. The construction is straight forward, panelled back with solid base, shelves, sides and top, the finish is Chestnut clear finishing oil, about 7 coats.

The dimensions are 39" high, 70" long and width is 10 1/2", nice and chunky to take those oversized books.

I used the LV cabinet makers jig to incorporate adjustable shelving.

ooh very nice. I have a bookcase high on my list atm. It will be of very similar proportions. Shame you din't take any WIP pics, I could have nicked some construction ideas ;)

Its the 32 system, not cheap but I think I've had my monies worth over the last few months, looks a bit complecated when you open the box, but very straight forward to use. One of the problem is that you can't get decent 8mm brassware in this Country, so get these in bulk from LV as well.

If you're interested your welcome to try before you buy.

Hi Waka,

very nice indeed.
I made a similar one some years ago, but did not put in adjustable shelves.....big mistake, and used cheap veneered wood, it has now gone up in smoke.

Thanks for reminding me I need to make another.

I'm sure I can explain how I put it all together if its a help. I always mean to do WIP's, but only remember when the project is finished.

Was just wondering what joinery you used and approx dimensions

Waka - interesting jig, wasn't sure what it did and am still a bit confused :? having read all the stuff on it. Nice to see that pensioners can afford kit like that

It is very expensive. If you could pick up a second-hand Record 148 dowelling jig and make up some extra long rods, I reckon it would do much the same thing at a fraction of the cost

Cheers

That looks like an interesting system. Where did you get yours from (if you don't mind me asking)?

This is a little purchase I made at Westenbirt last year from Brimark. I'm sure other system can be adapted to suit, I do beleive that someone on the forum made a wooden one a few years back, but I can't find the link.

For me its the accuracy, ease of set up and the fact that you can use it on different widths of wood on the same project and get perfect hole alignment. Like all things LV its very well made and thought out.

Rob aligns all the holes for the inserts and pegs that hold up the shelves. Had to save my pennies for this one, you'll never know what was sacrificed.

The back panel I'm afraid to say is cherry vennered mdf, hate saying that word.
