Phil - yes it did sit in a recess but it was the weight of the glass I was really commenting on - the ones in the photos don't look to be stuck down?
Another thing that occurred to me was - why not some doors in the side for access - would have to frame the opening though to maintain the barrel structure?

I definitely will put doors in some of the full sized barrels, not sure if doors would make the smaller ones too flimsy.
