New TS Coming Soon from Charnwood

Just noticed this on Charnwood's website

Looks like a mixture of the Kity419\Axi TS 200 and the SIP clones. The sliding table looks identical to the Axi TS200. No slots in the table is a massive turn off. Don't think this will do very well against the SIP clones.

Same with the 419 - I'm not a fan of this type of operation.

I suppose all will depend on the price?

No mitre gauge slot would be a real no, no, for me as well.

Suppose a slot could be assimulated by putting a sheet of 18mm mdf on the table with saw slot and a dado cut into mdf for a form of slot.

If you look closely to the right of the on/off switch you can see another handle sticking out on the RHS of the machine.

Could you not remove the cross-cutting fence use the slot in the sliding beam?

It will indeed be interesting to see how it compares with the others. It's bound to be cheaper than the SIP etc, purely because of the sliding table. A lack of T-slots could also mean the price is a bit lower (less labour and tooling). It's unlikely Charnwood will be the only ones selling a saw like this - we'll probably see one from Axminster, Fox and maybe others, in time.

No it pigging well doesn't and in my humble opinion it is a serious drawback, - getting height and angle sorted is a right sod. The current design has changed slightly in that the handle now has a brass insert with teeth as opposed to the plastic ones that get knackered very quickly.

I don't use my mitre slot at all but then I don't use jigs.

Looks like a good saw for a medium between smaller saws and full cabinet saw. Wouldn't bother me not having the mitre slots. No need if you have a sliding table. You could use mag lock for your feather boards and jigs can ride the fence.

Way too much for what looks like a Kity 419 on a closed in stand. Go for the SIP if you don't need a sliding table or the Axminster if you do. Simples.

Nobody seems to be marketing the DEFT T30 and T70 level saws, all opting for these cheaper variants and comparable prices. Tis a shame, if the DEFT truly was as good as we have been told it was, but I suspect the next importer of these will pitch them at a price in excess of £749 to emphasise their quality and distinctiveness from offerings such as this charnwood. Lets face it, a good quality saw is going to cost, and from the pics it doesn't look as if this charnwood is going to be up that.
