A Hitachi M12VE, fitted the lift without modification, the run out on the spindle was checked with a dial indicator and is the best of all the routers I have.

Anyone else thinking of going this route with the Axminster router lift, the Hitachi M12V2 does not line up with the pre-drilled holes in the base plate of the lift.

Ok.

What you're talking about here is a lot more money's worth, a great deal more.

I understand you're a little tainted against Triton, and I'm not their biggest fan, but to have put my OF2200 in a router table would probably have cost me more than buying the TRA001, the table and the stand. It performed well enough, no major complaints apart from Triton's inability to put the through the table adjustment hole in the insert.

I sold one of Axminster's older cast iron router tables last year, with a Draper 1/2 router hanging off the bottom using some clips that every time I used it I worried they were going to come off and launch the router at me. It had stood unused for a year. THEN she needs me to make doors. IMO though, the Triton in the table performed better than the older table I had, by a long way. Much easier to change bits out too.

Its not a point of being tainted against Triton, in fact I still use a 2000 workbench as a saw table, but IMO its worth pointing out to those that don't know the shortcomings of some kit they may be thinking of buying.

As entry level kit the Triton gear is fine, but if you are going to get into any thing that requires a fine degree of accuracy the Triton gear has its limitations, but in the end you get what you pay for.

Changing bits is not a problem on a modern router and table, the lift will bring the colette high enough out of the table that you do not need to grope around underneath for the lock button either to undo or do up the bit, but with the Triton you don't have a choice when you wish to unlatch the lock/switch.

Bet you wish you had not sold the cast iron table and found a way of fixing the router down that gave you confidence in it.

Absolutely not. Didn't get used, for two reasons. I had no real use for one at the time, I also had very little faith in its accuracy and safety.

It was the router table that was hinged on one side with a lift mechanism that allowed you to open it like a car bonnet. Had an NVR switch on it, so it was easy enough to operate, just a bit flaky. There wasn't an insert to easily mount a router and was a faff getting everything straight and true.

I made a table for my 1010 just for rounding over really. Got the Triton because I watched one go in an auction for £80 less than a new one and figured I way as well get one for these beech doors. Worked a charm.

No wonder you don't still want it, if it was that antiquated, I now understand why you like the Triton table so much, but you really should try to get to use a modern table just to see how much more convenient it is.

That looks a decent router table, it says the router is mounted with T slots, from your description I assume the clamps go into the T slots and clamp onto the router base plate, you say this was not secure and you had reservations on its safety, this needs highlighting if that is the case to let others know the problems.

Mike

Mine didn't go into T slots, it was some "lugs" screwed onto the underside of the base I think. I expect if I started a thread about it there'd be a queue of people stating it's fine, so I won't.

All I'm saying is you saying the Triton router is rubbish (and I'm paraphrasing) and that it shouldn't be compared to something a lot more expensive because that's loads better is just life, it's how it is. You get what you pay for most of the time. I expect someone with a spindle moulder or a CMS with Festy mounted in it would be laughing at your setup, just sometimes that's all people can afford (or in my case want to spend) and make do.

I don't want to fall out about it, but for the sake of our sanity, we're on the same page really. More expensive is normally better, we agree :)

It is what these threads are all about, other peoples experience with different tools, if we don't post and say what we have found out about them the threads become a nonsense.

We will not fall out about it as long as both of us (as we have) are civil to each other.

Bonne Chance.
Mike
