Not "preferring". "using".
I had almost 30 years of imperial, followed by 30 years of the mish mash of both that the uk politicians forced on us (1/2" hose sir, do you want it 25 or 50 metres long?), and then 10 years in a metric country (which bizarrely uses imperial for wood measurements).
What chance do I have?

I might well be 1.8 metres tall, but my waist is definitely 36".

I know I have said this before, but getting your own webspace where you can host your own pictures and remain in complete control is really not very difficult or expensive.

I've had paid webspace twice in the past, and both providers pulled the plug when it became financially troublesome for them to continue. Admittedly they were both small outfits. Luckily I only had a monthly subscription, I feel sorry for those who had paid upfront for a "lifetime" membership......

I've come to the conclusion that nothing on the internet is going to last a "lifetime". Except perhaps those embarrassing photos that you wish would go away 8-[

I've been in the same boat as everyone else regarding the problems with photobucket. Luckily I've had a flickr account and now use that for embedding photos on forums.

I've moved over to flickr too, but I can only find the hotlink bbcode when I'm using a desktop PC. I cannot hotlink from a phone.

Do you have to make your boards public to be able to embed them in threads?
No Memzey. I never make public. In practice this makes your pics viewable in 'usersub' and allows comments and all that malarkey. If you want to use it purely as an image host there is no need.
Cheers
Chris

Incidentally for those new to imgur if you search it for sub groups there's plenty of content. Try 'r / woodworking' no spaces. Reddit woodworking groups are also worth a search to waste a little time searching for inspiration.... or anything that takes your fancy tbh. Again use the r/search.

Cheers Chris. I’ll change to private and hopefully that won’t break the thread images I have already shared.

Chris, just got an email from someone I sent the link to and he says the whole site is covered with *** ads.
Does anyone else see this? My ad blocker shows its stopping 37 adverts each time I visit, but doesnt tell me which ones.
I'm holding back on publishing any more till this is sorted.

Hi sunnybob,
I have just been on Imgur and viewed your boxes. Stunning work =P~ =P~ I am going to try these boxes soon.
I had a good look and saw no signs of **** etc. just the pictures you have posted. I use AdBlockerPro so there is little chance of getting unwanted images. I signed with Imgur a few weeks ago and have had no trouble so far.

Thanks Don.
He wasnt clear on whether they were actual 4X adverts or just the insane ramblings of comments under pics.
I have now made the album private rather than public, but as far as I know the pictures are still in the threads.

I have suggested he a) dont read the comments or b) get an ad blocker. So far he has not replied.

Hi,
I just had a look, great boxes, no sign of ads. I use Opera browser which has an ad blocker, I turned it off and got targeted ads for - wait for it -------- woodworking tools.

OK, panic over. he has come back with details. He got the hump over other pictures on imgur. Nothing to do with my album at all and nothing I have control over.
I told him "dont look Ethel", but it was too late.

Alright Bob.
I get ads when I view Imgur on my mobile not my pc.

Let me explain a little about imgur for those new to it. It's a photo hosting site but it's also a bit different. It has it's own community of users. If you post a photo as shared it's available to anyone to see or comment on in 'usersub'. Posts that get a lot of upvotes and comments will eventually make it to the front page. (Most viral) and will get a lot of attention. There's specific groups/interests such as woodworking or shiny cars or whatever. These are sub grouped and can be searched for with the prefix 'r' as I posted before eg 'r/woodworking'. Some imgur regular users regard themselves as a bit of a 'family'. I'm a bit old for all that Horlicks. As people post popular content, vote, comment etc they can get points. Basically other people liking or not liking their content. It's a bit half witted. It's the modern day internet after all.
Still with me? :D

Bit like on here you have everything from regular posters who have genuine knowledge to share or questions to ask to some who never post or reply but might get a lot of help from a WIP and everything inbetween including the occasional twonk. Unlike on here, a pretty specialised 'community' (sorry) interested in wood, tools and everything else, being a far bigger site it doesn't take a lot of rithmatic to work out that the percentage of Twonks is exponential. Basic Internet Maths.

Even though I find a few of the Most Viral posts worthy of wasting my life for 10 minutes or so while waiting in my van to get into a job at 5am I have never felt the compulsion to join in (hammer) and the vast majority is dross that you swipe through. It's a time waster.
That's why I never make anything public on there. It's unnecessary if you want to just use it as a photo host..

With regards to your mate and the ****. No. Never seen it in maybe 3 years. I use an adblocker on my pc and the ads I see on mobile are related to what I've been looking at or more definitively buying on the net. Bought a new lamp? I get lamp adverts. Bought an Emergency stop button? I get ads for Emergency stop buttons. Bought a load of Blue Spruce, Lie Nielsen, Karl Holtey gear? No Idea. Can't afford any of that gear.
Not one to cast aspersions personally I'd whisper a few words in your mates ear. Algorithms, BitDefender, Anonymous Browsing, CCleaner and Delete Internet Cache might be nine of those words.
Ironically, one of the first post on Most viral on Imgur at the moment is this one. :D
