Does anyone know anything about the new Lyndhurst table saw on the market ?

I've just been sent a few pictures and the spec sheet through. Looks pretty much identical in the pictures and the specs compared to the Xcalibur 806 but at only £750 including the VAT. However, it's not on their website.

Can anyone tell me how I can post the pics/specs on here for others to see ? Otherwise, if your interested, I can email them.

Would be good to have some experiance cast their eyes over the specs/pics to see what they think.

I had decided to purchase the Xcalibur TC10RAA (804 I think), but am having second thoughts now.

nice one, thanks Alf.

well, here they are.

Looks a typical Chiwanese cabinet saw similar to Xcalibur / Grizzly / Yorkcraft / Carbatec etc. One factory, 20 different colour schemes. Looks a great saw and excellent value. 3 Hp and a decent arbor. If you get it let us know how you get on with.

humm, looks like somebody is a bit partial to that processed meet.. maybe in the fritter form !

I thought this forum was for help and advise, not stupid posts like the one above !!!!

I'm just asking for advise and the more experianced users opinion.
I have nothing to do with Lyndhurst other than living in the city of Bristol.

It does look like the Mao Shan TSC-10HB which I believe the Xcalibur 806 is. However, the dust extraction is different, as the Xcalibur (and other Mao Shans) have the extraction port on the right. See more details here

I hope that the motor listed is not the one that it is shipped with, as that is a three phase US motor (60Hz).

Interestingly the TSC-10HB is about 30% cheaper in Oz and the US.[/url]

I beg to differ, Paul. That isn't a picture of my 806:

Different guard
Different motor cover
Different switch position
Added fence storage hooks
Different fence facings

Having said that, it looks very similar functionally and certainly, assuming things like bearing quality and motor quality are comparable, it's a steal.

Does this convince you?
US Xcalibur

For the UK market the switch gear has to be changed (for single phase 230V/50Hz instead of three phase 220V/60Hz), and possibly moved to get the CE mark.

Also, we know that the design of these machines is always changing slightly, the photo on the Woodford website is not identical to the pictures you posted on here (different guard).

Paul,
My point was that there are differences between the two saws. They may be 95% the same, in which case one could also argue that the Lyndhurst/ Harvey machines are the same.

I don't want to get heavy about this, I wasn't picking a fight, honest.

Shall we agree to call them "equivalent"?

It will be interesting to read the first review on it.
Cheers

Steve,

I think there is a misunderstanding, I'm with you. The Lyndhurst and Xcalibur machines aren't identical. The Xcalibur is made in Taiwan, and the Lyndhurst is made in Nanjing, China. I'd put money on the Taiwanese product being better quality. But they look similar because they are both Unisaw clones.

Sorry for any confusion.

Think I will be ordering my Xcalibur in the next few days, but as I live close to Bristol, I may take a look at this saw as well.

Ah, I see. The penny has dropped. :)

Do you know why the switch is moved to the right? Seems a retrograde step to me. I plan to move it to the left. It's a nice switch otherwise. The red button locks off, so you have to rotate it before you can push the green button. But I don't like the position very much. Perhaps it's just because I was used to having it on the left on my previous saw. At least it shouldn't be a big job to relocate it.

Bit like various cars on the market these days, essentially same car, different badges and a few bits and pieces that try and differentiate each particular brand. Other differences (like motor cover) are determined by things like left or right tilt.
Regarding the build standards between Taiwan and China I think there is little difference. Over the past year or so manufacturers like Mao Shan have started buiding factories in mainland China with similar production and build quality and Taiwanese quality control. Grizzly have recently started importing Chinese built machine into the US and they have been as well received as the Taiwan built products. The Lyndhurst machine looks good value and I'm sure quality is perfectly good.
Referring to these cabinet saws as "Unisaw clones" is mis-leading. Nobody refers to Wadkin or Startrite or Jet cabinet saws as "Unisaw clones". They're all just cabinet saws.
Just thinking the Lyndhurst machine reminds me of a Shopfox or Wilke TS: http://tool-corral.com/shopsite_sc/stor ... /w1677.jpg

I referred to them as Unisaw clones because as I understand it they are identical dimensions to a Unisaw, and most of the threaded holes are in the same location. So for example, you could fix the Delta sliding carriage to a Mao Shan or vice versa. I'm no expert on the subject, and I am just relaying what I have read elsewhere.

Don't forget there are a LOT of different Unisaw models from Delta. Check out their website and you'll see

I don't see this as anything like spam.

No, nor do I. That's why I apologised. I had injested rather too much wine, misread the post, and jumped to far too hasty conclusion.

Sorry again!
