New lathe

Thinking of buying a Rutland lathe this will be my first lathe .Good or bad.?

My inclination would be to buy from somewhere like Axminster, who can offer practical support, or Yandles, where you have a physical shop selling known brands with good parts back up.

Rutland's are ok if everything works straight out of the box, but lacking in customer service these days it would seem. Used to be able to phone them and speak to someone who knew what they had in and how it worked

What do you think of the Record 320?

Thanks for that can you let me know the height of the lathe from the base to the centre of the head stock.

According to the 2018 catalogue the max turning diameter is 320mm (hence the name, presumably) so from the top of the bed to the drive centre will be 160mm

or from the actual base of the lathe to the drive centre is c. 380mm. I have mine on the Record stand rather than a bench.
