Haven't been posting so much meself lately, due to one thing and another
Finally got round to making another new bench for me lathe, this time though i have now detached the bench from the wall so it is free standing.
Got a pair of Hegner legs off John (JPT) thanks John, and copied Ray's (Argee) bench design for the same lathe. Thanks Ray.
Filled top and bottom trough with oil soaked sand making it a lot heavier than what it was,and putting three seperate cupboards in the space that was left.Just used some old 18mm ply framed with some pine, and just stained the whole lot with some old stain i had.
Managed to turn the bowl that is in the piccy and that's all i've done so far :(
Also bought the bowl extension and attached that to the bench.
Made meself a new tool rack, and bought one of the magnetic ones which are really strong, and useful to have just to put tools and other items up out the way :D
So i hope that that's that for now.I am pleased with the new bench just can't wait to give it a proper turn out

Spalted Sycamore bowl.300mm dia 80 mm deep.Finished with food safe oil.

Nicely done, Paul! :)

I'm not sure if I told you this, but if you've got now't to do one day and you want to paint the ply to match the lathe and legs, the colour reference you'll need at one of those paint-mixing machines is RAL 6011.

Ray

Good progress Paul, hope things sort themselves out soon so that you can spend more time spinning bits of wood.

Don't know if I would have had the nerve to talk SWMBO into swapping the car just to make more room for the lathe though

well said ray, i like your style, well done paul great looking bench.

Hiya Paul, nice job looks the Cats Miow now, many happy hours of turning . You and Ray are really flying the flag for Hegner with your benches. Well done REgards Boysie.

nice one - I need to do likewise - tho adapted for an axminster M900 - when i finally get round to bringing it over to my new gaff (its still at my old dears at present)

any reason why your sand is "oil soaked" ?

Bench looks nice, bowl looks nice :D - now you just need to keep going, and try to make a hole in that enormous timber stock you've got

Looking good Paul.

Now you just need to get that big bit of wood on for a hollow form and see how it goes. :D

Thanks for all the replies :D
I'm sure the lathe will be put to test soon:D
Glad to say also that i have now sorted the cross slide out,and it works perfectly now.Hegner were very helpful with this matter, well after the warranty was up on the lathe.Another plug

Ray.Yes you did give me the paint code, but thought i would just stain it,just to use the stain that i have had for years.
Chas.Believe me swmbo didn't take much persuading,as you know. The other car served it's purpose at the time, but swmbo is a lot happier with this one, plus it does give me that little extra space  :D
George. Will look forward to seeing you.You will be more than welcome. :D
Boysie.I think you are right. But hopefully this will be my final attempt at a bench for the lathe.
BSM.The sand was oiled to keep it wet/moist.Another tip from Ray.Which keeps it a lot heavier than if it was dry.The troughs are lined with polythene,to stop the oil soaking through the MDF,but another tip from Ray was to put the sand in plastic bags,so it will be easier to remove when the bench as to be taken apart. :D
