Let me tell you a little trade secret.
Once you understand the fundamentals of quality woodworking you can turn your hand to anything. Ignore the self taught primadonna's on YouTube who punt gimmicky tools and never did their time on the front line. They are pedlars of bombast and pourers of epoxy. Anyone can learn to cut a mortise and tenon. Forget the festo Domino machine and the kreg jigs. That's BS woodworking.

No matter how big or small the job, the principals remain the same. One day at a time, one joint at a time. It's amazing what can be accomplished when you just keep plugging away at it.

Thanks Deema. You know the funny part is that people are used to seeing me do fine and fussy work. Clean and tight. Then they come in the new house build and see rough sawn beams with joints that are strong but not perfectly tight. They see steps at the joined surface, they see slight gaps at the tenon shoulder and they think I've lost the plot. But to me that's the beauty of framing. It's rugged and functional not smooth and glossy. Over time the joints will tighten up under gravity anyway.
Mortise and tenon joinery is actually very tolerant and still gives a strong join.

It took two of us eight weeks. One week to raise it with a team of four. It was the most fun I've ever had working heavy timber but it's hard hard work. We cut and joined all the frames on trestles, marked them up then stacked them ready.
It's traditional English scribe. Just raw sawn green Australian cypress.

Makes me wish we had houses like that over here. You've got most of the house without laying a single brick! Amazing piece of work though.
