This little Abingdon King **** Tool is approx 6” length.
Turn the wing nut retracts the hook into the tube, but what’s this tool called and used for?
Is there a simple way to search old UK Pat numbers, I’ve often tried in th3 past, but doesn't appear simple to do.

The pat number was granted 1924.
 
Wow, they must have been giant splitpins to be able to insert a jaw like that into the head of the pin. Thought I'd come across some big ones on earth moving apparatus and old tractors, but even they couldn't have accommodated that thing.
