Not a bad effort. If I may be so bold as to say a few things. I think there is enough in the photo to make a dam good portrait and the laurel wreath is simply a distraction. Also the eyes are dead, I could not work out what it was ,then I realised it was in the photo, eye highlights. The eyes need to be cleaned up and high lights added.
I would spend a bit of time on the image software and use a bit of poetic licence to create a bit more of the character that is in the photo. I would consider veining to get the flow of the moustache and beard. It really is a good photo. Plenty there to have a go at.
Hope this helps and is not meant as criticism. Good luck.

First of all let me say that you are light years ahead of what I would attempt ,but I agree with Clockie about the laurel wreath ,As regards the rest of his comments about the eyes he seems to know what he is talking about ,If it were me that produced the piece I would give his advice some serious considerations .

Thats what I would do anyway , Unless you are happy with your effort that is . Best of luck.

thank you for your commets, im here to learn, and your advice is so welcome, its was made on a einhell bt-ss 405E, I got it a few weeks ago, I know its a cheapo, but its not bad to start on, I do understand that it looks flat, I dont have access to a pc, (yet) I got shut of the pc as I can do most stuff via my phone, I drew this free hand via a grid, for positioning, so I think its time for new pc, what software do you all use, I used to do a bit of editing on photoshop, but wasca longtime ago thanks for your help
ps ah clockie the laurel is his emblem of his cafe, I agree I also had reservations on this, it was a toss the coin moment . as he has them all over the place there.

My comments where in the light of what I saw. I have no idea who it is. The saw you have is not an impediment to producing good work. Get good quality blades, this is what does the cutting. Pinless blades will give you more choice but you may need an adapter for that saw.
I have seen portraits done on paper as pencil drawings and this was then cut by hand. This was real skill.
You could use Photoshop or Gimp. I am not very good with mobile phones and hate pads but is there an app for photo editing?.
Don't be put off with what you haven't got make the most of your talent and equipment.

Hey cragster. I have just started getting into the portrait game and I'm really enjoying it. I've been using photoshop to covert my photographs into a usable pattern. It has a function called stamp which I use to get the main chunk of the pic converted and then usually spend another couple hours fine tuning using the pen and eraser function.
I must admit for your first attempt it's really impressive, I liked it a lot.
I'll be checking your face book page also now, and if you'd like to check out mine i'd be great full, the more likes the better isn't it haha.
