Hi

I am not very confident when it comes to electrics, would somebody be kind enough to advise me on wiring a single phase D.O.L starter?
I have searched for a diagram but no luck yet in finding something that makes sense to me.

Is this right?

The starter has a Thermal Overload Relay fitted by me, are the wires marked * in the correct place?

Many thank in advance.

Hi Nola,

Hard to tell from the picture.

The only problem that I can see in the picture is that the thermal relay would not operate correctly because you are only using two of the three poles. The third pole, if not used, would not heat at the same rate of the two poles being used (if at all) and this could delay and event prevent the relay from operating resulting in a burnt out of the motor. As for any other problems it is hard to tell.

The best advice I can give is to get a skilled electrician to undertake this task for you, it would not take long. Remember electricity is a good friend if used correctly but it has the ability to kill!!

The diagram shows the wiring you would expect, operating the start button extends the neutral to the contactor operates it and its contacts extend live and neutral to motor while keeping the contactor operated so if the power goes off contactor drops out and motor will not run until start is pressed again .
Should be supply to L1&L3 and wire 3to L2 on the diagram
Some differance with terminal numbers in photo but your wire sudjestions and terminal numbers look correct.
