I've recently been given a very old brook crompton parkinson motor.

It had no lead on it and doesn't have a capacitor. It doesn't look like its missing one.

Inside there are only 2 connection points and its stumped me. Could it be earthless?

I don't know how old it is and google doesn't recognise the serial/model number.

It's a single phase 370w motor.

Any ideas?

Top left of your pix is screw head I will bet that is the earth conection, it is to protect the case and you!

There is absolutely no way that will be earthless ! !

Look at the 3rd photo down ... Chrispy is correct imo
 
I didn't see the screw, maybe because it doesn't look like its been used.

I thought it would be earthed but wondered with it being that old.
