I'll try and get hold of a set this weekend. There are 4 stores that's know of so am sure I'll find them. I'm after some bits and bobs as well

Aldi and Lidl only have the chisels in their "specials" only 2 or 3 times a year, the last one was a while ago so I'd expect the next one would be soonish, say in the next few months. They don't have them as normal stock.

Although if you're very lucky a store might have some left over in the backroom somewhere and they decide to sell them, reduced to £6 from £8, which I did see one time.

@MrYorke. That's brilliant thank you very much for that. Really appreciated.

Yes, fully aware of that. We're talking about the carving chisels that went on sale the other day

Hi. Sorry for the confusion. I was talking about the bevel edged bench chisels.

Sorry.

Jonny

Yeah I think some posters are thinking about the chisels and some are talking about the carving tools* that Lidl have at the moment, from Thursday I think. 12 tools in a wooden case for £20.

I've had a look at the carving tools before but didn't buy them. The blades are very chunky, prob made from the same steel as the Aldi/Lidl chisels. I'll have another look later today.

*afaik carving tools/gouges/chisels are never just called "chisels" in general.

Ah I see the confusion.

I was talking about the bevel edged chisels that Paul Sellers blogs about.

Jonny

Both Aldi and Lidl do the same chisels and as mentioned they haven't had them for quite a while. I would expect one of them to have them fairly soon. When they do, someone will post on the forum about it.

Sorry, I was thinking about the Paul Sellers recommended chisels.

Just picked up the Aldi catalogue. They have some more DIY stuff in on thursday that would be useful for green woodworkers. They have some kind of log splitting machine that I can't see the point of considering they're also selling axes, sledgehammers and a decent looking log splitting wedge for a fiver.

Quick update, I just bought their sanding kit. It's all sanding sheets, with a block and three abrasive sponges. The packet does say that it has sanding disks for orbital sanders, but they appear to have changed the contents from last time but have kept the same packaging.

I bought it for the sanding block, which is ok. I only need it for a small project. They do have grits above 120, which is a nice change considering that the likes of B&Q think that 120 qualifies as 'fine'.

For any chainsaw users, Lidl have their little electric sharpener fro £20 from Monday.

I've had one for a couple of years and it's a great bit of kit. Easy, repeatable sharpening in, (quite literally) a few mins. Obviously for a pro out in the field all day no good, but for a hobby user / logger at home it's great.

(PS I've no connection with Lidl!)

Thanks for that. Our local Lidl (right over the other side of Chichester) had a few so I have risked £20 - it looks a lot easier tha hand held file I've tried to use.

They also had sets of the carving chisels but not really of interest to me.

I bought a set of Aldi/Lidl chisels second hand of someone on this forum, saving considerably on the new price. :):)

They are robust and do all I have required off them, but unfortunately I wouldn't know the difference between a good and a great chisel so not much help
