Moisture Meter advice

Hello Gents,

It seems my moisture meter http://www.axminster.co.uk/axminster-axminster-mc6012-digital-moisture-meter-prod22668/ is on the blink & so I need to buy another one - but a better one as this only lasted 18 months of rare useage.

Can you recommend one please?

Is it essential that you use a meter? In my experience picking up a used scientific balance (i.e. very accurate scales) cheaply and using the oven method is more reliable... But requires that you're able to take a small sample off of the piece to be tested, and have time to wait for the sample to dry; no good if you're selecting timber at a yard, but great if you're trying to work out when soemthing will be 'ready' for you to start work.
